Program Overview

Emily Carr University of Art + Design was founded in 1925 and is one of the oldest post secondary institutions in British Columbia and has become one of Canada's leading educational centers for practicing artists and designers. The University is a member of AUCC, the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada and offers a comprehensive undergraduate and graduate program that is centered on visual arts, design and media education.

Highlights

This 21-month, full-time program delivers core curriculum that combines intensive theory and research seminars with rigorous studio classes. Students are exposed to advanced exploration in their respective disciplines. Students acquire a profound understanding of their own practices through ongoing production, presentation, analysis and critique and also complete a professional internship between the first and second year. The internship ensures that each student gains practical work or research experience in an external professional context.

Buildings & Facilities

Intersections Digital Studio (IDS) offers graduate students access to new state-of-the-art technologies along with the more traditional resources available at the University. Along with prototyping amenities, display, and multimedia equipment, a variety of exciting technologies significantly expand the capacity for creative exploration, and innovation. These include a Motion Capture Studio for research in animation, ergonomics, and interactive entertainment, a CNC machine, thermal printers, spatial, full-body and flatbed scanners for 2D and 3D, a Bailey kiln for prototyping in ceramics and industrial design, digital HD video cameras, computer equipment, and an Apple Xserve for high speed rendering.
